Early Life and Career in Education
Sita Mahalakshmi Challa, born on 24th July 1943 in Andhra Pradesh, was a woman of great intellect, humility, and commitment. She earned her Master’s Degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed), equipping herself with strong academic credentials. Her professional journey began in the field of education, where she worked at St. John’s Evangelist High School in Marol from 1969 to 1992. Over these 23 years, she played an instrumental role in shaping young minds with dedication and discipline. In 1992, she opted for voluntary retirement (VRS), but her zeal to contribute to society and industry was far from over.
Sita Mahalakshmi married Dr. Challa R. Sarma, an Emeritus Professor at IIT Bombay, on 17th May 1963. Together, they built a family rooted in values, education, and hard work, raising their only daughter, Satya Vadlamani, who would later go on to lead Murli Krishna Pharma as its CMD.
Role in Murli Krishna Pharma’s Journey
After retiring from teaching, Sita Mahalakshmi transitioned into the business sphere with remarkable agility. In 1998, she invested in Murli Krishna Exports and served as its chairperson. This marked the beginning of her long-standing association with the pharmaceutical industry. In 2004, she joined Murli Krishna Pharma as a Promoter Director, helping the company grow into one of the most respected names in global pharmaceuticals.
She approached her work with precision and foresight, ensuring that the company’s operations remained cost-effective without compromising on quality. Between 2020 and 2024, she personally handled purchases for Murli Krishna Pharma Pvt. Ltd., saving the company over ₹10–14 crores through her strategic procurement decisions. Her leadership and vision significantly contributed to the company’s sustained success.
A Pillar of Family and Values
Beyond her professional achievements, Sita Mahalakshmi’s most cherished role was that of a mother and grandmother. She was the mother of Satya Vadlamani and grandmother to Venkat Arjun Vadlamany and Dr. Venkat Murli Krishna. Along with her late husband, she was deeply involved in raising her grandchildren, instilling in them the values of education, integrity, and independence.
